Rather than waiting for a fault to occur, regular maintenance provides an opportunity to assess the condition and operation of your cooling equipment, identify signs of wear or deterioration, and recommend any further work that may be required.

ATC recommends preventative maintenance at least annually, with the exact maintenance requirements depending on the equipment, application, operating environment, and service agreement.

What does ATC check during preventative maintenance?

The exact work carried out will depend on the chiller and its condition, but a preventative maintenance visit will typically include checks across the main areas of the equipment.

General equipment condition
The engineer will assess the general condition of the chiller and look for visible signs of wear, damage, deterioration, or other developing problems.
This provides an opportunity to identify issues that may not yet be affecting operation but could require attention in the future.

Refrigeration system 
The refrigeration system will be check to assess its operation and performance.
This includes checking that the refrigeration circuit is operating correctly and identifying any signs that further investigation or remedial work may be required.

Fluid circuit
The process fluid circuit will be inspected as appropriate for the equipment.
This can include checking the condition and operation of pumps, coolant flow, and accessible parts of the fluid circuit, as well as looking for signs of leakage or deterioration.

Condenser and airflow
For air-cooled equipment, the condition of the condenser, fans, and airflow through the chiller will be checked.
Dust, debris, or other restrictions can affect the chiller’s ability to reject heat, so keeping these areas in good condition is an important part of maintaining reliable performance.

Electrical and control systems
Relevant electrical systems, controls, and safety devices will be inspected and checked for correct operation.
Any visible signs of deterioration or components that may require further attention can then be identified.

Temperature and operating performance
The engineer will check operating temperatures and temperature stability to help confirm that the chiller is performing as expected under the conditions available during the maintenance visit.

What happens if ATC identifies a problem?

One of the main purposes of preventative maintenance is to identify worn or deteriorating components before they result in equipment failure.

Where an issue is identified, the engineer can record the finding and recommend appropriate further action.
