ATC K6 Chiller used by Precision Cutting Company

Posted: 16 September 2022
Chase Diamond Tools International are a specialist business based in Northampton (UK) who supply customers with precision cutting tools. The company works with UK and international customers predominantly in the automotive, ophthalmic and electro optics sectors alongside a selection of precision engineering customers.

All the tools they manufacture are for each specific customer requirements. They produce tools which work with non-ferrous metals and produce mirror finishes which can be compared to plastic glasses lenses. Working within the automotive sector the tools are used for manufacturing pistons and alloy wheels.

The tools they produce are used to create a highly controlled or polished surface. Any business that works with Chase Diamond Tools appreciates the quality results that their tools provide. Benefits include improving manufacturing output and often meaning that no second manufacturing process is required.

Their aim is to work with manufacturers to refine and perfect tools to reduce time within production processes.  Although they have been in business for a long time the UK awareness of what can be achieved with diamond tools within manufacturing is low.

Martin has been involved with Chase Diamond Tools since 1983 and is now Managing Director of the business. They have recently invested in an ATC K6 chiller.

The chiller was a new purchase for the company, as they previously had no need for the piece of equipment. Martin researched many precision temperature chiller suppliers online and approached Applied Thermal Control.  Chase decided they wanted a company that would offer a tailored solution and that would take the time to understand their requirements. Martin liked the fact that ATC were a relatively local business and willing to appreciate his requirements.

The K6 we provided fitted the budget for his project and the chiller provided the right features.  We worked closely with Martin to meet their timescale and delivered the K6 chiller on time. Martin is pleased with the buying process and the level of support he has received, he is also reassured that ATC can provide a loan chiller if he ever needs it, preventing a halt in his production.

The application the chiller was purchased to work alongside is a cooling vacuum braising machine, which braises diamond onto carbide. The original specification of the application was created by CDT, built in Korea and shipped to the UK. The interior of the application the K6 chiller is required to cool can reach a temperature of 900oC. To improve efficiency and provide complete protection from freezing and algal growth the K6 chiller is also used with our heat transfer fluid, Hexid.

Martin says about the ATC chiller: “The K6 chiller is now an essential part of the manufacturing process at Chase, cooling the application from 900oC.  Delivery of our chiller was well communicated, received in time and it was very easy to install and connect.  We are very pleased with the service we have received from ATC.”

ATC are now working with Chase Diamond Tools on a new bespoke joint development project to support their chiller requirements.
